Airbus A319 commercial passenger aircraft
Moore's Aircraft - Easyjet Budget Airline

Easyjet’s Budget Airline Airbus A319 commercial passenger aircraft
Thank you easyJet for allowing me to explore most of Europe at a reasonable price. Cheap airline tickets have allowed my to go on numerous city breaks and fly drive holidays. These have ranged from Ireland to Greece, North Africa to Germany and many countries in between. EasyJet was established on the 9th of March, 1992, starting operations one month later with two leased Boeing 737-200s that operated from London Luton Airport to Glasgow and Edinburgh. In April, 1996, easyJet took delivery of its first wholly-owned aircraft and for the first time went international with its services to Amsterdam from London Luton. In 1997 the company website was launched but online bookings are not available until 1998.

Twelve brand new Boeing 737-300s were ordered in September, 1997 and in October easyjet launches its second UK base at Liverpool Airport. In July, 1998 15 brand-new Boeing Next Generation 737-700 were ordered.

EasyJet establishes London Gatwick as its fifth base in December 2001 and becomes the second largest scheduled airline at the airport, after reaching the ten million seats sold online milestone. In August, 2002, easyJet and the airline Go complete their merger. In 2003 easyjet order 120 Airbus A319 aircraft and start flying the first delivered planes from Geneva. Easy jet continue to add new bases and routes are being added to the network in the following 3 years. In early 2006, easyJet becomes the first major low-cost airline to offer internet check-in for its UK passengers, offering a 15-minute gate arrival time for those travelling only with hand baggage.

In October, 2008, the Dortmun Airport base was closed down and in December 2009, easyJet stopped flying to and from the East Midlands so they could concentrate on higher priority markets. So far, touch wood, No easyJet aircraft has been involved in a fatal incident. EasyJet operates over 525 routes and have over 192 aircraft and operate across 29 countries. Headquarters of easyjet are in Luton, England. They employ over 7,000 people including 1,900 pilots and 4,300 cabin crew.

EasyJet and Ryanair are the largest low cost airlines in Europe. The rivalry between them has been intense but the two companies have different business strategies. Ryanair uses secondary airports to reduce costs where as easyJet flies mainly to leading airports as they try to focus on attracting business travellers as well as leisure travellers even though all its aircraft have single-class cabins.

EasyJet’s mission statement says that their job is “To provide our customers with safe, good value, point-to-point air services” and that is exactly what they succeed in doing. They are a cheap no frills budget airline. You often hear people complain about Easyjet but in reality they are just a bus company with wings. If you want the frills you should pay extra money and fly with a different airline where you can book your seat and be served a meal. Easyjet is a budget airline and people forget that.
